Rain Jacket Fabric

What is a good rain jacket fabric?

A good rain jacket should be made from a fabric that is waterproof, breathable, and durable. Some of the best rain jacket fabrics include:

  1. Nylon: Nylon is a synthetic fabric that is lightweight, durable, and water-resistant. It's often used in rain jackets because it can be treated with a water-resistant coating to make it more waterproof.
  2. Water-Repellent Fabrics: Water-repellent fabrics are either constructed or finished in such a way that they resist penetration by water, whether it’s through a waterproof coating, dense weave structure, wax, or water-resistant material like nylon or polyester.
  3. Vinyl: Vinyl fabrics are composed of polyvinyl chloride, or PVC, which is naturally impenetrable by water. Though less breathable than other options, vinyl will definitely keep you dry, and comes in a wide variety of colors, opacities, designs, and textures, and may or may not include a fabric backing.
  4. Laminated & Waxed Fabrics: Laminated and waxed fabrics are treated with a coating that is often water-resistant, in addition to adding stunning finishes like a metallic sheen or glossy look.

Ultimately, the best rain jacket fabric will depend on the specific needs of the individual, including the intended use, climate, and personal style preferences. We always recommend ordering swatches beforehand!
